Natalia Katyukova, pianist
American tenor Matthew Polenzani is one of the most gifted and distinguished lyric tenors of his generation. His elegant musicianship, innate sense of style, dramatic commitment, and timeless artistry have established his continued presence at leading operatic, concert, and recital venues worldwide. Recent engagements have taken him to the Metropolitan Opera for three leading tenor roles during the recent 2019-2020 season, to Madrid’s Teatro Real for a company debut in Verdi’s La traviata, and to the Bavarian State Opera in Munich for Carmen.
This performance featured works by Robert Schumann, Gerald Finzi, and Charles Ives.
Streamed November 30 – December 11, 2020
“Polenzani assembled a program both familiar and novel. An opening set of Schubert songs zeroed in on the pain of solitude pervading the composer’s work, all the more poignant during this period of social isolation.”
Charles T. Downey,
Washington Classical Review
“Pianist Katyukova, a worthy partner throughout the recital, matches Polenzani’s colors throughout, providing gorgeously detailed postludes, and their triumphant delivery…brings the cycle to a very satisfying conclusion.”
“The recital gives the audience a stunning view of the best that the art form can be. With songs drawn from Schubert, Finzi, Schumann, Poulenc, and Ives, there is something that can entice any voice aficionado.”
